Apogee Electronics distributor, Reflexion Arts, has provided a complete AD/DA interface set-up for the recently opened O Ganho do Som, located in Lisbon, Portugal. For studio owner João Ganho, this is the only way to ensure full transparency while monitoring digital audio in such an unforgiving listening environment like the control room at O Ganho Do Som.

Two time Grammy Award winner and ex-Decca Cheif Engineer, James Lock, is now on board at O Ganho do Som and went public stating that "with the Apogee converters, this is the best sounding mix facility in the world! I have never heard my Pavarotti recordings sound so good".

Euphonix, Apogee Partner for EuCon/Maestro Integration
Palo Alto, CA (November 26, 2007)--Euphonix and Apogee Electronics have announced a partnership to integrate Apogee's converters with Euphonix control surfaces through the EuCon control protocol.

EuCon is a high-speed, high-resolution control protocol that enables software applications such as Apogee's Maestro to be directly controlled from Euphonix System 5 and S5 Fusion consoles, and the MC and System 5-MC controllers. Maestro is a software interface that functions between OS X applications (OS 10.4 and above) and Apogee hardware.

By adding EuCon control to Maestro, all Euphonix consoles and controllers will be able to bring up and control the Apogee range of converters from their control surfaces over high-speed Ethernet. This also includes controlling the Maestro mixer from the Euphonix channel strips, which is used for low latency monitoring and will make monitor mixing faster and simpler, according to Euphonix.

Work is underway on EuCon integration for Maestro with expected release date for the EuCon adaptor early in the New Year. "We have been talking to Apogee for some time," explains Euphonix CEO Martin Kloiber, "and both parties are eager to get this project completed as many of our clients would like to integrate Apogee's high-quality converters with our consoles and controllers. EuCon will allow our control surfaces to control levels and parameters in the converters from the faders and knobs on the channel strips and show metering information on the console's screens. It's all part of our wish for Euphonix clients to be able to pick best-of-class products and integrate them together. We make great consoles, Apogee make great converters--it's as simple as that."

"For the benefit of our customers, we want to realize the compelling product synergy which exists between Symphony System, Ensemble and Euphonix control surfaces," adds Apogee CEO Betty Bennett. "Apogee and Euphonix have mutually benefited from a strong working relationship over the years. We are pleased to provide our customers the means to seamlessly operate and control their Apogee devices with Euphonix products."

Apogee Takes Two TEC Awards at AES New York with Ensemble and Symphony

AES New York, October 7, 2007 - Apogee’s Ensemble and Symphony both won TEC awards at Mix Foundation’s 23rd Annual Excellence & Creativity Awards. At the ceremony held in New York on October 6th, 2007, Ensemble took home the prize in the “Digital Converter Technology” category and Symphony won for “Ancillary Equipment”. The TEC Awards, founded in 1985, honor the individuals, companies and technical innovations behind the sound of recordings, films, TV shows and live performances. The nominations are made by a panel of industry professionals and voted upon by the subscribers of Mix. These are the 13th and 14th TEC awards that Apogee has received.

About Ensemble:
Ensemble is a multi-channel digital audio interface designed specifically for Apple’s Mac computers and uniquely integrated into Apple’s Logic Pro Studio. The all-in-one Ensemble features 36 channels of simultaneous audio, including eight channels of Apogee’s legendary A/D and D/A conversion, four transparent, digitally controlled 75dB mic-preamps, eight channels of ADAT I/O, two channels of S/PDIF coax and optical I/O, and FireWire connectivity to and from the computer. Also included with Ensemble are Apogee features such as SoftLimit to prevent digital overs, UV22HR dither for mastering, and ultra-low jitter Intelliclock.

Here’s what Ensemble users are saying:
"I have been so incredibly happy with the Ensemble, you could not imagine. The sound has taken all of my mixes and compositions to another level. It is an amazing piece of engineering. I bought the Ensemble because I am a Logic user and I need the best possible sound. The Apogee sound is unprecedented and extremely present in the Ensemble. It has all the quality, features, and ease of use that I have been looking for. The direct integration with Logic lets me do more - faster and better. I can't wait to use it on my next scoring job."
- Felix Brenner - Composer, Mixer, Producer

About Symphony:
Symphony connects Apogee’s legendary X-Series and Rosetta Series converters to Apple’s revolutionary Mac Pro and Logic Studio audio creation and production DAW. The result is the lowest latency available in a native audio system (1.6 milliseconds at 96k) and an incredible capacity for plug-in processing and high channel count recording that outperforms popular card-based DSP systems. And, with all of those benefits, a Symphony System comes at a fraction of the cost, making it an undeniable choice for professional high-end audio.

Here’s what Symphony users are saying:
The Symphony card has brought a new level of sophistication to my writing rig. I am now able to have the extremely low latency that was never before associated with native systems. Symphony's performance has made a huge difference to me and the musicians I work with. And it worked seamlessly out of the box with a new Mac Pro which has allowed me to replace a four computer rig with just one powerful integrated system...amazing.

Apogee Is The Special Sauce For Linkin Park's Secret Performance On KROQ’s ‘Kevin & Bean’ Morning Show

Los Angeles, CA-July 20, 2007 – While in the throws of mixing songs from Linkin Park’s Earth Day performance in Japan tracked just a week earlier, Le Mobile’s Guy Charbonneau was called in last minute to mix a secret performance of the band for influential, new music station KROQ 106.7FM at an undisclosed location in Los Angeles. Charbonneau mixed from his portable Pro Tools system with a stack of AD-16X and DA-16X’s direct-connected to an HD-3 rig via Apogee X-HD option cards.

“Kevin & Bean’s Breakfast With...” series has become an incredible vehicle through which some of the biggest artists in new music today are showcased, including Beck, Coldplay, and Nine Inch Nails. With 100 lucky listeners in the audience, the show is broadcast to millions of morning KROQ listeners, rendering sonic quality a top priority. “We are right in the middle of mixing songs from the Japan performance, so we couldn’t bring the truck up from San Diego for this event,” explains Guy. “But fortunately, we have a portable Pro Tools system that we can pack up and travel with at a moment’s notice-which is what we are using today.”

Set up in a makeshift mixing room behind the stage, Guy worked to capture the magic and energy of the band’s performance. “It is important to have the best tools going into any live recording situation. With the 16X’s, I know that the sound is being captured and played back correctly. I have really come to depend on them.”

The Police use Apogee to Record their Highly Anticipated Reunion World Tour 2007

The Police, prior to embarking on their 30th Anniversary world tour, chose Apogee converters and clocking to capture the long-awaited, historic performances. The Police’s touring rig, spec’d by their Live Engineer Donal Hodgson, features Big Bens, X-Video Cards, Rosetta 200s, 3 AD-16Xs with 4 X-HD cards, all running Pro Tools HD.

Hodgson, who is also Sting’s Sound Engineer, was confident that Apogee was the gear he could rely on for such a demanding tour. He explains, “I am extremely happy with the Apogee gear, the Pro Tools recordings sound so much better, it’s not even comparable to the old system, a totally different league of sonic excellence. As the rig is primarily setup for live show recording, multiple outputs weren’t necessary and I love the fact Apogee have been clever enough to realize that everyone works in a different way with I/O configuration and I simply didn’t want to fill the rack with a bunch of D/As that we won’t use on the road. With the video board upgrade on the Big Ben I can provide or sync to black & burst with the video world, and being sample accurate with concert footage is a must. The system feels really solid, the stereo imaging is really true and wide. I’m just thoroughly impressed and confident we have a system that will make fantastic recordings out on the road time and time again. A big thank you to you all at Apogee.”

Following the tour launch in Vancouver, the gear has stood up to the expectations of quality that is needed on the road. He comments, “I’m back from Canada and really very pleased with the quality of the recordings we’re now making on the tour.” In addition to the gear on tour currently, The Police also have a Big Ben and Rosetta 800 with X-HD card in their UK-based Rig.

Malcolm and Jamie Luker rely on Apogee to make the films ‘Deja vu’ with Denzel Washington, Jim Carey’s ‘The Number 23’ and the upcoming ‘Slipstream’ with Sir Anthony Hopkins Sound Amazing.

Santa Monica, CA-March 13, 2007-Uber-successful scoring engineer Malcolm Luker’s impressive rack of Apogee gear is beginning to measure up to his never-ending list of credits. Partnered with his eldest son Jamie, the Luker team swear by their ten AD and DA-16Xs and 5 Rosetta 800s, all with X-HD cards, and 3 Big Bens using one HD6 and two HD2 rigs. With consistent feedback on the great sound quality of their mixes from the industry, Malcolm and Jamie continue to trust Apogee.

Although he would be able to discern the superiority of Apogee’s quality himself, it is the positive return his work generates that reinforces his decision to be an Apogee devotee. Luker says, “We used the Apogees on the Denzel Washington movie “Deja Vu”, and I am very pleased to have heard from people in the industry that the music sounded great in the movie theatre. That's due to Harry Gregson Williams, who wrote the score, and the use of the best equipment available.”

In addition to working on Jim Carey’s latest film, “The Number 23” and the upcoming “Shrek 3”, Malcolm and Jamie recently collaborated with Sir Anthony Hopkins on “Slipstream”, who not only stars in and directs the film, but also composed the score. Malcolm recalls Hopkins as a man who “humbly introduces himself as Tony, a nicer and more appreciative man would be very hard to find.”

For “Slipstream”, Luker says, “We scored the film at Todd AO using the Apogees, and mixed it using our three rigs with Apogees. It is interesting to note that the recording desk at Todd AO has the ability to bypass the recording media with the touch of one button, enabling a perfect A/B comparison between direct and any recording media. At 88.2kHz we could not perceive any collapsing of image through the Apogees, as opposed to another brand of convertors which will remain nameless. I am glad we made the decision to use Apogee.”

L.A. Philharmonic Presents First Symphony Composed Entirely with Apogee Ensemble at Walt Disney Concert Hall On March 12

Los Angeles, CA-March 5, 2007-The LA Philharmonic will present the first of four highly anticipated movements composed entirely with Apogee Electronics’ Ensemble by Composer Felix Brenner on Monday, March 12 at the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles at 8:00 p.m. Brenner, known for his score to the award-winning short film The Death of Salvador Dali, will premiere his work alongside the French Trio Las Ondas Marteles and debut performances by Oscar-winning singer/songwriter Jorge Drexler.

For his first full-length symphony, Brenner drew inspiration from the Salvador Dali film and credits it for being the source of the symphony’s themes. He used the Ensemble during his travels throughout South America, Cuba and Mexico, where he composed the beginning stages of his first movement, the rest of which he finished at his home studio in Los Angeles upon his return. Brenner elaborates, “I wrote many of the themes while on the road, but the first movement as a whole was composed at home entirely with the Ensemble. I am currently in the process of completing the next three movements.”

Brenner’s decision to utilize the Ensemble came down to convenience, quality, and performance, all qualifications met by the Apogee FireWire Interface. He says, “When it came time to orchestrate, expand, and develop the themes from the Dali short into a classic four movement symphonic form, I knew I needed to make a major upgrade to my system to realize the full depth of the orchestra. Apogee was my first choice and the Ensemble's simple interface and stellar sound quality fit the bill perfectly. With the many sections and huge dynamic range of the orchestra, being able to hear the nuances and character of each individual instrument is paramount. With the Ensemble, I am able to place myself inside the orchestra as if I were in the conductor's position.”

The Palms Casino Resort In Las Vegas Hits The Jackpot With Apogees
The Studio At The Palms And The Hotel’s Upcoming Concert Theater, The Pearl, Install A Total Of 14 Ad-16xs, 16 Da-16xs, 30 X-Hd Cards And 3 Big Bens

With a multi-million dollar, state-of-the art recording facility and concert theater nestled amongst the bright, blinking, neon lights of the Vegas strip, The Palms Casino Resort has brought the art of making music to a whole new level. Two interconnected recording venues make The Palms the ultimate in quality, professionalism and luxury for artists, engineers and audiences alike. In two separate installations, the hotel ordered an impressive total of 14 AD-16Xs, 16DA-16Xs, 30 X-HD Cards and 3 Big Bens to be used in both the Studio at the Palms recording facility and at their upcoming concert theater, The Pearl.

The Studio at the Palms in Las Vegas, Nevada, resides within the Palms Casino Resort and offers its clientele exclusive amenities both at the studio and at the hotel. The Studio fascilitates a world where work and play can co-exist, and with their install of 10 DA-16Xs, 10 AD-16Xs, 20 X-HD cards and 2 Big Bens, what a world it is. George Maloof and Larry Rudolph partnered to open the 8,000 square-foot recording studio, and now, under the direction of Zoe Thrall, it has become one of the hippest, most high-profiled, professional and fully equipped facilities in the world. With Apogees integrated into both their Studio X and Studio Y setup, the clientele receives the quality they rely on in an environment only Sin City can get away with.

Director Zoe Thrall elaborates on the setup. She says, "The converter is one of the few pieces of equipment in the studio that is used minute-to-minute in the session. When choosing a converter we wanted something that is reliable, sonically transparent, and by a company with outstanding technical support. Apogee provides all of that. Apogee builds products of first-rate quality that tell our clients we are serious about audio. We are so happy with our Apogee products that we have purchased additional converters and Big Bens for our new concert venue that is opening Spring 2007."

The Pearl, The Palms soon to be celebrated concert venue, is touted as being one of the most elaborate venues in the world. The Palms installed 6 DA-16Xs, 4 AD-16Xs, 10 X-HD cards and a Big Ben Master Clock.

Apogee Supports Macy Gray’s M:Gray Music Academy For The Youth
Apogee Electronics has provided Macy Gray’s M:Gray Music Academy with professional recording gear to enable underprivileged children in the Los Angeles community to realize their music potential and explore their talents in an inspiring environment. The M:Gray Music Academy, of which Apogee is a Gold Partner sponsor, is a non-profit organization that aims to offer affordable after-school and weekend music programs, as well as scholarships and sponsorships.

The M:Gray Academy was founded by singer/songwriter Macy Gray, who runs the organization alongside a famous and influential group of board of directors (Polly Anthony, Erykah Badu, Common, Damon Dash, Cameron Diaz, Will I Am and Justin Timberlake, among others). In providing the community with inexpensive after-school and weekend programs, the school offers a positive alternative for underprivileged children and teens. Statistics have proven that music programs decrease community crime rates and keep kids focused, as well as help sharpen their math skills. The M:Gray Academy strives to “surround our youth with music as an instrument of peace and a valuable and enriching way of filling the after school hours”

Apogee CEO and President Betty Bennett comments, “We are pleased to be able to contribute to Macy’s remarkable Academy. At Apogee, we support efforts that encourage and offer music education for our youth. The Ensembles in the recording studio, along with our sponsorship of the programs, will give the children a chance to more deeply engage in music and the recording process. We are honored to be a part of that growth.”

ABC’s Hit Television Show “Lost” Uses Apogee Converters For Its ADR Mixing
HONOLULU, Hawaii-December 7, 2006-The one thing that has not been lost on ABC’s hit television series Lost is the quality of the sound. Tony Hugar, the ADR mixer for Lost, utilizes an Apogee DA-16X and an AD-16X with X-HD cards connected to his Pro Tools rig at the Audio Resource Honolulu studios in Hawaii to re-create the dialogue for the show.

Hugar recognizes the importance of having the highest quality converters when looping for projects. He elaborates, "Nothing is more recognizable to our ear than the human voice. It is said that infants recognize their parents from the womb. We recognize friends or family on the telephone immediately even if we haven't talked for months. If something is off with a voice, we hear it. In ADR/looping for film and TV, hearing a line stand out is bad. The transparency and the clarity of my Apogee converters allow the lines I record for Lost to blend right into the production lines. And the open quality captures all the emotion of the original performance."

Three seasons later, Hugar is still mixing for Lost. Yet, despite the show’s demanding schedule, he is constantly expanding his list of credits with a variety of other projects. His recent work includes ADR mixing for the film "Santa Clause 3," and Sony Animated Picture’s upcoming feature “Surf’s Up,” DVD commentary track recording for “Desperate Housewives,” character recording for the video game of “Scarface,” and the live recording for AOL of Jack Johnson’s Kokua Festival.

Sirius Satellite Radio Chooses Apogee’s Rosetta 800 For Live Broadcasting
Live recording is Sirius business. With no second chance to get it right, Sirius relies on Apogee’s Rosetta 800 when quality, efficiency and reliability are all pre-requisites for the job. Home of Howard Stern, NFL Radio, and Eminem’s own Hip-Hop channel, Sirius Satellite Radio has a channel for every demographic. But regardless of what channel you are tuned in to, the broadcast has to be first-class, especially when it is live, because one take leaves no margin of error.

At the recent recording at CBGBs in New York, Patti Smith alongside Flea from the Red Hot Chili Peppers gave an unbelievable live performance that Sirius Radio broadcast on their Sirius Disorder 24 channel. Matthew Galek, Sirius’ Sound Engineer, explains, “We use Apogee converters anytime we need I/O of the top quality that we can rely on for broadcast purposes.”

Flyte Tyme Production Studios Install Apogee: 10 AD-16Xs, 10 DA-16Xs & 5 Big Bens

With five rooms of Apogee gear, the decision to add purple to the Flyte Tyme Production Studio racks is proving to be the great future investment it was projected to be. Recording and producing heavy-hitters Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, with the help of their engineers Matt Marrin and Ian Cross, installed a total of 10 AD-16Xs, 10 DA-16Xs and 5 Big Bens across all five of Flyte Tyme’s production rooms. Each room features 32 channels of Apogee’s premiere A/D and D/A conversion and the revolutionary Big Ben master clock to sync it all together. Seven months after the opening of the private, fully featured studio, the Apogee name has lived up to their expectations.

Marrin, who records and mixes projects for Jam and Lewis, is also the Audio Technical Supervisor at Flyte Tyme. He comments on the Apogee buy, “Obviously after Terry found the studio, the next big decision was what gear we were going to get to make it the high-end studio he and Jimmy needed.” He continues, “I knew that Apogee made an X-HD card which would easily integrate Apogee converters with our Pro Tools rigs, so it was perfect. 32 in and 32 out with each room’s rig was our goal. We wanted a higher-end system like Apogee, and we were thrilled that we were able to utilize them with our set up. We have received incredible feedback from the engineers and artists who have been using them. With a Big Ben in each room, we know that the system will perform flawlessly and allow us the flexibility to add other digital gear as is needed. It’s basically bullet proof.”

When a facility makes the decision to buy enough gear to outfit all of its rooms, quality and integration into the existing systems are paramount considerations for the long run. Apogee passed both those tests. Marrin explains, “We knew of Apogee’s reputation for quality, which was obviously an important consideration for us. But the main reason that we chose Apogees over any other converters was because they are an advantageous selection. The compatibility factor is what makes it more than great gear, but a great investment for the future.”

Apogee’s Symphony PCI-Express Cards Enable The Synthesis Of Art And Technology In The Second Installment Of 16:9, An Intercreative Sound Installation At The World New Music Festival 2006

Apogee garnered attention as the cornerstone technology in Daniel Teige and Martin Rumori’s second installment of 16:9, the highly acclaimed interactive sound installation at the World New Music Festival 2006, which showcased this July in Stuttgart, Germany. Using Apogee’s Symphony PCI-Express Cards, Apogee DA-16X converters, a Power Mac G5 and custom designed interface and software, the installation created a platform upon which all technologies worked in concert to form a speaker canvas empowering each participant to become a painter of sound.

Daniel Teige, Sound Artist/Composer/Software Developer, elaborates:

“...We used two Apogee Symphony Cards and four DA-16Xs with the new Apple G5. During the festival people were constantly using our system for more than 12 hours a day. The installation was running day and night for three weeks without any problems. Right now we are working on a big exhibition with up to seven single canvases. Since this system just works so well, Apogee will be my choice! Apogee together with Apple Computers is what I call sophisticated hardware setup.”

Sound Art, often equated with spatial installation and sculpture, is a truly unique amalgamation of the arts in 16:9 as it converges with painting. Using a portable and easy to use interface, sounds can be mixed and freely spatialized on a 60-channel speaker canvas of several square meters by painting with colors on a handheld touchscreen.

Apogee Delivers New PCI-Express Driver For High Performance, Low Latency Audio on Mac Pro!
Apogee Electronics Corporation announced today a new high performance PCI-Express driver for their ‘Symphony’ 32-channel PCI-Express card. This Universal Binary driver is designed to take special advantage of the power and technology in Apple's new Intel-based Mac Pro to achieve performance levels previously unattainable in native audio.“We are very excited about the power and capability of the Mac Pro” says Betty Bennett, Co-Founder and CEO of Apogee. “The combination of the Mac Pro and our industry leading Symphony PCI-Express card delivers on the promise of high performance native audio for professionals.”

"The newly designed Mac Pro delivers quad-Xeon performance, greater expansion, high-end workstation graphics and unprecedented customization to fit the wish lists of the most demanding user,” said Ron Okamoto, Apple's Vice President of Worldwide Developer Relations. "We're delighted Apogee has taken advantage of the innovative architecture and blazing speed of the Intel-based Mac Pro to deliver powerful professional audio performance with Symphony.”

Apogee’s new Universal PCI-Express driver, in combination with the powerful Intel processors in the Mac Pro, lowers the latency of the Symphony PCI-Express card by over 50% into the 2ms range. This achievement is a significant increase in performance beyond other native solutions on the market and compares favorably to the latency on other hardware-based systems.

The Mac Pro architecture in combination with the Symphony PCI-E card’s high channel count and low latency surpasses all competitors in performance and value. With up to 4 internal SATA drives, the Mac Pro can be setup as a striped RAID, making recording and playback at high channel counts with high sample rates a breeze. The power of the two Dual-Core Intel Xeon chips gives you more plug-ins, and more soft synths, with even lower buffer settings than ever before. Symphony PCI-E and the Mac Pro deliver twice the power and performance of other systems, at half the price.

Apogee partnered this week with Berlin based sound artists Daniel Teige and Martin Rumori to create 16:9, an interactive sound installation that pushes the boundaries of new audio technologies with the incorporation of audio hardware using Apogee’s newest product, the Symphony-PCI-Express card. The system includes the Apogee DA-16X converters, a Power Mac G5 and custom designed interface and software, all of which work in concert to form a speaker canvas from which each participant becomes a painter of sound. As the first official public demonstration of the Symphony-PCI-Express cards, the exhibit will be viewed at the prestigious IRCAM during the heavily attended NIME (New Interfaces for Musical Expression), Agora Festival and Resonance conference.

Daniel Teige, Sound Artist/Composer/Software Developer, elaborates:
“...We are using two Symphony Express Cards together with four DA-16X to get 64 channels audio out of our new Power Macintosh G5. Using Apple Computers together with Apogee products will assure that my installation will run 24 hours a day during the exhibition without any problems. I also used this system to work on my composition for 16:9 running Apple’s Logic...it is my dream team...and besides that...I never heard better converters in my entire life.”

Sound Art, often equated with spatial installation and sculpture, is a truly unique amalgamation of the arts in 16:9 as it converges with painting. Using a portable and easy to use interface, sounds can be mixed and freely spatialized on a 60 channel speaker canvas of several square meters by painting with colors on a handheld touchscreen. Manny Marroquin - Mixer/Engineer
Recent Projects: Usher, Kanye West, Nikka Costa, Alicia Keys
"I did some A/B testing, during a mixing session, between the Rosetta 200 and some other converters here at the studio and the Rosetta 200 was extremely impressive. First of all, just the over all output from the Rosetta 200 was stronger. Even after calibrating it to the other units the 200 still sounded bigger. The Rosetta 200 also had more depth and transparency... an openness of sound that I really like."

AD-16Xs in Capitol's Studio A for The Godfather: The Game

The hallway leading to Capitol’s Studio A is lined with pictures of some of the most legendary artists in recording history like Sinatra, Nat King Cole, Louis Armstrong and Ella Fitzgerald. Another legend descended on Studio A recently, the music of the The Godfather. An orchestra, led by composer/conductor, Oscar® winner, Bill Conti, and arranged by co-composer, Emmy® winner, Ashley Irwin, was assembled to recreate the music for the much anticipated Electronic Arts game of the same name. Scoring engineer, Malcolm Luker chose 2, Apogee AD-16Xs to capture the event into a Pro Tools HD rig.

“When we got the project we wanted to make sure that we captured the sounds of this memorable music with the best equipment possible and the [Apogee] 16Xs were the clear choice for converters.”
He continues, “they [the 16Xs] just offer more depth of field and more openness in the higher frequencies that is critical when recording such dynamic and intricate music.” Also involved in the session were Capitol engineer, Charlie Paakkari, and Pro Tools engineer, Jamie Luker.

In “The Godfather: The Game”, inspired by the Mario Puzzo story and subsequent film by Francis Ford Coppola, gamers can “help” the Corleone family navigate the dark under-world of organized crime. The Godfather: The Game is due out in November of 2005.

Le Mobile Captures Coachella with Apogee

In the six years of its existence, The Coachella Valley Music Festival has become what many consider to be one of the most important new music festivals of the era. Traditionally showcasing a wide diversity of musical genres, the 2005 Coachella celebration brought artists like Nine Inch Nails, Weezer, Chemical Brothers and Coldplay to the desert of Southern California.

Since the first show in 1999, Guy Charbonneau and Le Mobile have been capturing live performances on the main stage for a planned Coachella theatrical and DVD release. The 2005 show was the first to feature Le Mobile’s new 112 channels of Apogee 16X converters and Big Ben word clock generator on the truck’s two Pro Tools HD systems. “We are really excited to be using the Apogees on this gig” explains Guy, “We are now in a position to capture the audio the way I know it is suppose to sound”.

Guy was also impressed with Apogee’s support and follow up: “In my business, I have to make decisions and act quickly…I know that Apogee is there whenever I need them. That kind of attention to customer support is rare these days”.

In addition to Guy’s truck handling the main stage, the mobile recording crew ‘On The Spot Recording’ was brought in to cover one of the five secondary stages. With 32 channels of AD-16X and Rosetta 800 conversion clocked to a Big Ben on their portable rig, Dylan Ankney and Jason Hicks were set up to cover the two days worth of performances armed with the best digital audio conversion available. “We were blown away at how good everything sounded just going through the Apogees.
